As you now know I am undertaking the challenge of completing 2 marathons, a half marathon and a triathlon over a 5 week period. My aim is to raise as much money as I can for what I consider to be 3 very worthy charities.
Ever since my sister-in law and nephew were killed by a drunk driver
in 1998 I have wanted to raise money for a charity that supports families
who have to go through the trauma of losing a loved one. I also wanted
it to be a charity that tries to educate people against the potential
consequences of drink driving. SCARD (Support and Care After Road Death
and Injury) and CADD (Campaign Against Drink Driving) are one and the
same charity and this is the reason I have chosen to raise funds to
support them.
Nicola Waller was just 28 Years old when the car which she was driving was hit head on by a drunk driver who lost control of his car whilst travelling at a speed well in excess of the legal limit. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that Nicola was 8 months pregnant and due to be married later in the year. Efforts were made to deliver and save the baby but unfortunately these were unsuccessful and both lost their lives. Fortunately her 6 year old daughter and fiancé escaped with minor injuries. Her daughter is now reaching adulthood and is a beautiful and well adjusted young woman of whom her mother would be proud. Nicola was fortunate to have a very loving and supportive family that have become even closer as a result and have helped each other through the difficult times. SCARD and CADD are small charities and would appreciate any help you can give them to help support the work they do in supporting families and educating people.
I hope to raise as much as I can to support their efforts by completing
the London Marathon on 25th April 2010, Harlech Triathlon on 9th May
2010, Chester half marathon on 16th May and Chester Marathon on 31st
May.
