My lovely younger daughter Kate Auchterlonie was killed on 17/2/09 three days after her 28th birthday in a careless road accident whilst cycling up Caerphilly Mountain on a training ride. Her family and friends are of course devastated that we have lost her forever and we miss her every day.
After the accident I phoned SCARD for advice and they provided a lot of helpful legal and other advice. Initially we asked for donations instead of flowers to go to Brake and Crisis, which Kate had volunteered for last Christmas. SCARD is a small charity with a very practical, focused and helpful approach and I have now chosen to raise funds for SCARD.
Kate was very fit and active and was a promising cyclist and fell runner. By running the Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of SCARD I feel I am doing something worthwhile in memory of Kate. She would no doubt smile wryly to see my training efforts. You can read more about Kate on http://www.kateauchterlonie.blogspot.com
Please help me to reach my fundraising target of £2,000 by being as generous as you can and by telling anyone else who knew Kate about this site.
Sue's Recent Events:
The Cardiff Half Marathon - Sunday 18th October 2009
"The Cardiff Half Marathon is the biggest road race in Wales. Over 7,500 runners entered in 2008. This year's event on Sunday 18 October will be the biggest yet, with over 9,000 people expected to take part. The race will have terrestrial TV coverage for the first time on Channel 4 and S4C, and is backed by the Welsh Assembly Government. We are also hosting the prestigious Welsh Half Marathon Championships, attracting more top runners. What's more, we are the only half marathon organised and owned by a charity, with runners supporting the charity of their choice. An estimated £500,000 was raised for charities last year. Half the runners who have signed up to register this year have so far indicated they are running for charity - and this could be a lot more".
Thank You for Sponsoring Sue!
Well done Sue, from all at SCARD
I would like to thank everyone who has so generously sponsored S.C.A.R.D. in memory of Kate, and helped me raise over £2,000 (when I have collected it all). It was a perfect day for running and I did it in 2:19 and still felt good at the end - but am a bit stiff and sore now. Got a bit teary thinking of Kate on the run and then thought - Kate would have had none of this, so got on overtaking the person in front. And just so you can see for yourself, this is me over the finish line with medal. And this is Kate running up Snowdon last year.
Many thanks everyone.
